Soc 100 Introduction to Sociology: Social Life
In this course, you’ll explore the basics of sociology, focusing on how society shapes human behavior. We’ll examine the factors that influence individuals and groups and their effects on everyday life. By the end, you’ll gain a critical understanding of modern society and the dynamics at play!
Soc 101 Intro to Sociology: Contemporary Society
Dive into the critical analysis of modern society with a focus on Canada! This course uses basic sociological concepts to explore themes like family, education, religion, health, crime, technology, mass media, and the environment. You’ll engage in lively discussions and gain insights into the social dynamics shaping our world.


Soc 106 Indigenous Settler Canada
In this course, you’ll explore the complex relationships between Indigenous Peoples and the political, judicial, and socioeconomic systems of the majority. We’ll critically examine contemporary land claim settlements and the evolution of Indigenous self-government, encouraging thoughtful discussions about these important issues.
Soc 110 Women in Canadian Society
This course offers a critical look at the status of women in Canada. You’ll analyze theoretical perspectives and dive into topics like paid and unpaid labor, media portrayals, feminist organizations, and issues affecting women of color. Through discussions, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of gender relations and violence against women.


Soc 112 “Race” & Ethnicity in Canada
Students will explore the sociology of “race” and ethnicity within the context of contemporary Canadian multiculturalism. Students will examine how current understandings of “race” and ethnicity affect life in Canada and how racism and ethnocentrism function within Canadian political and social life. Students will also explore the legacies of colonialism in Canada and the roles of multiculturalism and anti-racism in overcoming inequality.
Soc 160 Family and Community
In this course, students explore the diverse dynamics of family and community life today. Through critical examination of key issues, you’ll discuss how families adapt to societal changes, focusing on changing trends, variations in families, gender relations, family violence, community interventions, and social policies that impact our daily lives.


Soc 211 Introduction to Africa
This course explores the ecosystems and social structures of Africa from pre-colonial times to today. Using sociology and African Studies methods, we’ll critically examine issues like slavery, colonialism, globalization, health, culture, and inequality.
Soc 250 Social Deviance
In this course we’ll explore the historical forces that shaped these ideas of social deviance and examine the research behind them. Through critical evaluation, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of what drives deviant behavior and its impact on society.
